This is the place that will have latest news on
Broadband in Hawkley.
ADSL went into service on Hawkley Exchange 11th May
2005 and ADSL max (allowing "up to 8Mbps") went online 31st March
2006. The next stepping stone is BT's target date for introducing
21CN (fibre optics) which is Q1 2001
BT Wholesale are the sole providers of broadband from this exchange.
As there are only 308 residential premises and 38 non-residential
ones served by the exchange I do not see this changing in the forseeable
future.
Check with your ISP for availability if you are on
the outskirts of the exchange such as at Froxfield
or look at BT Wholesale's availablity
to check your particular phone line. Although the Hawkley
Exchange is enabled, some of the outlying extremes of the
exchange coverage are too far from the equipment to get full
speed broadband (up to 8Mb/s at present) but may still be able to
get 2Mb/s or maybe 3Mb/s. If you get one of the lower speed
connections you will still get always on benefits of broadband;
so unless you download lots of videos you may not notice it being
slower because it is still 80 or 160 times faster than dial-up.
If you are too far for BT to offer the service you have a number
of alternatives, first badger BT to improve the equipment
consider one of the alternatives, satellite.
If you want to consider the same ISP as me, I think
I get a good deal (£15/month for up to 8Mb
download speed) with no hassle, always on and
always fast and lo-call tech support based in Sheffield, try

I also have my phone through PlusNet using
"Anytime+". This includes line rental, 1000 minutes
a month of calls at anytime of day to Local or
National numbers including up to 300 minutes to 20
internatonal destinations including most of Europe,
USA, New Zealand, Australia all for
£15/month.
Look them up to see what sort of deal suits you. If
you need a business level of service they are good
for that too:
